Faculteit/Dienst: Faculteit der Rechtsgeleerdheid Opleidingsniveau: Universiteit Functie type: Ondersteunend Beheer Personeel Sluitingsdatum: 16 juni 2024 Vacaturenummer: 13024
Are you enthusiastic about:
  • Entrepreneurship, justice innovation and rethinking the ‘traditional approach’ of the legal sector?
  • Collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders - like students, start-ups, researchers, law-firms and NGOs?
  • Using organisational and project management skills to ensure those on your team aren’t distracted by time consuming admin tasks and can concentrate on what really matters?
Then the role of Student Assistant Start-ups at the Amsterdam Law Hub is the perfect way to make use of your skills.
What will your role be?
The Amsterdam Law Hub is a space for co-creation at the University of Amsterdam with a focus on developing innovative legal solutions to societal challenges. Situated in the heart of Amsterdam, we bring together a community of students, researchers, start-ups, designers and legal partners to solve justice problems. We form a link between the top academic talent at the University of Amsterdam, external stakeholders like the government or businesses and society at large. We are the Amsterdam Law Hub: Bridging to justice in the 21st century.
We have developed a variety of different programmes to help us achieve this mission. For students, we offer a year of incubation which mentors you as you transform a solution to a justice problem into a sustainable business or nonprofit. For researchers we have developed SklillShare Law - a booster programme to support informed career choices and develop the skills needed to scale academic and societal impact. We also partner with external stakeholders to design and deliver new approaches to justice problems. Our most recent example is RestartUp; a collaboration with Gemeente Amsterdam to create a digital one-stop-shop for entrepreneurs experiencing financial difficulties, explaining the insolvency process and helping them avoid damaging bankruptcy proceedings where possible.
Delivering all these programmes (and more) with such a small team is a challenge and the reason we are looking for a student assistant. Half of your role will be focused on improving our work processes so that we don’t waste as much time on unnecessary admin. This could be something as simple as creating a checklist for organizing events, or it could be something more complex like creating a digital handbook for incubator startups to answer their questions. The team will provide guidance and help you identify areas where we can improve, but we want to empower you to work independently to come up with a solution.
The second half of your function will be to support our work with startups in the incubator and related events like the Incuboater, our yearly free legal advice clinic for startups and nonprofits which is held on a boat. Your responsibilities will be:
  • Helping with event planning for our Legal Geek side-event in September, our Incuboater in October, and other networking events and workshops;
  • Administrative support in planning incubator sessions and liaising with the startup teams;
  • Identifying relevant mentors and investors for our entrepreneurs or the Hub itself and supporting partnership building with them;
  • Improving our existing startup database and administrative processes.
What qualities do you have?
Your experience and profile:
  • You are in the final phase of your bachelors degree or have just started a masters degree (but do not have to study at the Law Faculty);
  • You have experience in assisting with project management or can provide examples of a (work) processes you have improved;

  • You communicate with others easily and are not afraid to contact or talk with people you don’t know;
  • You are flexible in your working hours/days (we are too!);
  • You are available until at least the end of December 2024.
You recognize yourself in the following personal characteristics:
  • Proactive;
  • Results driven;
