Uitdagingen

At PostNL, our business unit “Cross Border Solutions” (CBS) makes it easy for people and businesses to communicate and trade across international boundaries. CBS aims to become the most respected service provider by supporting the cross-border e-commerce market through creative and innovative distribution solutions. In this international business unit we have 13 offices worldwide with 1.200 employees, being agile, customer focused and reliable. CBS serves customers over 190 countries. Within CBS, the department called “Business Intelligence & Analytics” (BI&A) provides insights for the entire CBS organization. We aim for the whole of CBS to have the knowledge and tools to be capable to make data driven (fact based) decisions.

During your Logistics BI internship, you will work together with BI&A and other IT and business colleagues from CBS to automate one of our most labor-intensive processes managed in MS Excel to a master data application. In this project you will analyse the current process, conduct stakeholder interviews and create a proposal to maximize the efficiency. As a next step, you ensure the successful implementation of the accepted proposal by implementing new cross-team ways of working, integrations and conducting trainings where applicable. You are not in it alone! You will get guidance from a team member and have many opportunities to fine-tune your ideas and action plan with colleagues.

Besides this core project, you will also be invited to participate in the team’s agile rituals and other activities, contribute to the maintenance of existing and building of new reports and can also get your hands dirty in our ongoing dashboard migration and data modelling projects. We also have a number of initiatives running to improve the way we handle unplanned work; have better overview and reporting capabilities about our data and service quality; implement new standards and tools for our engineering framework and experiment with generative AI solutions to make our work smarter. You are, of course, as a Logistics BI intern, invited to play a role in this important transformation journey, and share your own ideas and views!

Visible work: You help our (internal) customers with new information and insights, so that they can run the operations and planning efficiently, and make decisions based on the best quality data. Your improvements will allow us to understand performance of our international business even better!
Challenge: You dive into a complex data management process that supports our reporting capabilities. This allows you to really experience what it means to provide insights to the Netherlands favorite delivery service!

Wat breng jij mee?

With your analytical skills and curiosity, you know how to convert complex data into useful insights. You also have a keen eye and fresh perspective for continuously improving our way of working. With your can do mentality, you connect the different teams in the data flow from source to dashboard to speed up the generation of insights for all the important business decisions we make every day, based on reliable data. You are able to independently tackle various human and organizational issues, from data collection to managing of expectations.

In addition, you bring the following with you:

• You are currently following a relevant university education, such as a Master in IT, Business Administration, Data Science or Statistics;
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel;
• Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. SQL) and data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI) is a big plus;
• Good communication skills in English (Dutch is extra);
• You are available for at least 32 hours a week during your internship;
• You are interested in PostNL, the logistics e-commerce industry and our services;
• You can do an internship with us from September 2024 to January/February 2025. The exact start and end dates will be determined in consultation.
