Product Design Manager / Product Designer - Hybrid

What is the role about?

At Bitvavo we are looking for a product design leader with a strong passion for the craft and a heart for the people. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who is interested in supporting and investing in the growth of a group of already seasoned individual contributors, and in contributing design work for projects at a strategic and / or tactical level.

As a Design Manager youll directly support a group of product designers distributed around the core products of Bitvavo; directly managing their work, but most importantly, playing a part in their development and making sure they have an optimal environment to do their best work. Simultaneously youll have the opportunity to contribute to our roadmap by working as a "floating designer", meaning youll not be allocated to a specific team or area, but working on experiments or large projects that need strategic design leadership, on a need basis.

This is a hybrid role, best suited for someone who is already making a transition between craft leadership and full-time people management.

How will you make an impact?

• Being first and foremost a supporter and blocker-remover to the product design team. Generate development plans and ensure that each individual is supported in their career growth and in their progression within Bitvavo.
• Leading the product design team (part of the UX organisation at Bitvavo), providing direction, and ensuring that the team works collaboratively to deliver high-quality designs that drive measurable business impact.
• Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, marketing, and CLR, to ensure that the product design meets the business and customer needs.
• Setting design standards and lean processes for design, while evaluating and improving quality.
• Supporting the Head of UX in achieving departmental objectives, i.e. Design System, Research Maturity, etc.
• Supporting the Head of UX in growing UX maturity within the organisation.
• Supporting the Head of UX in strategic conversations around product direction.
• As an individual contributor, youll be held to the same standard as the full-time designers, and youll be expected to produce high-quality work for projects youll be assigned to on a need basis.

How will you be successful?

The ideal candidate has operated in a similar role, or has worked in one of the two roles while managing other designers. Bitvavo is a dynamic, fast-paced environment, thus it is important your communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills are honed.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience working as an individual contributor
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a people manager
• Experience working in FinTech i.e., banking, investing, crypto, exchanges, blockchain, payments, etc., or with a proven track record of building successful product design teams in mature tech organisations.
• Excellent English proficiency
